  • In response the currently high rates of alcohol poisoning, many colleges are implementing medical amnesty policies; these are intended as a means to encourage college students to seek help when the symptoms of alcohol poisoning are present. These policies provide a student the promise of amnesty for university alcohol policy violations if they call for help in a situation where symptoms of alcohol poisoning are present.
  • Nearly two-thirds of children 15 and younger who died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes were riding with the drinking driver, 20% of which were properly restrained at the time of the crash, and that restraint use decreased as the driver's blood alcohol concentration increased.
  • A blackout is an amnesia-like period that is often associated with drinking. A person may be functioning normally, but later, the person has no memory of occurrences. During a blackout, an individual can participate in a significant, emotionally charged event but have no recollection of what occurred. When blood alcohol levels rise slowly, people are less likely to experience blackouts, even if they eventually become intoxicated.
